Location
This photo was taken through a small opening of the window on the 37th floor of the One UN Hotel in New York.Time
Every morning this year, where ever I have been, I have taken a photo at daybreak/sunrise. This was a daybreak.Lighting
It was a grey spring morning in New York, with little color, so I chose to make this image black and white, this helped capture the reflection.Equipment
As the window would only open about 2 inches, the only camera that would fit out there was my phone!Inspiration
As I travel a lot with my work, I decided that every morning this year, where ever I am, to walk and to take a photo at daybreak/sunrise. It has taught me so much. No two days are ever the same and every day is beautiful wherever you are. Some mornings are just spectacular from the moment you step outside, but others have no obvious beauty. I have found if I wait a few minutes, the colors change, the clouds move, there is beauty and if you look at something from a slightly different angle or use a different lens, this can be captured. It starts every day in a positive way and showed me, I guess a lot like life, the glass can be half full or half empty, depending how you look at it.Editing
I first took this as a colored image, but found it was far more effective in black and white. In my camera bag
I always have my Panasonic, Lumix GX7 with me. I have 3 lenses and my phone which has a camera.Feedback
Daybreak is one of the most beautiful times of a day, the colors and light continually change. I try and set up and start shooting before the sunrises. Each morning I take about 100 photos before work.
