Roseate Spoonbill flapping its wings to clear excess water after bathing just before sunset. One evening during our pre-spring stay on Sanibel Island, Florida we decided to see what sunset was like at Ding Darling NWR. We had previously only seen one lone Spoonbill during our daytime trips to the refuge. But that evening, as the sun lowered in the sky, the Spoonbills started coming in one by one. They bathed, played and flapped their wings and then ultimately gathered with the pelicans and ducked their heads to rest. The light was waning which made photography more challenging, but it was beautiful to see that glow of pink in the waning sunlight.
