I had spent the afternoon photographing a couple of Eastern Peregrine Falcons and their fledglings that are nesting in a cliff in PA. As I was leaving the cliff for the evening I looked over to see this young Peregrine perched on a rock just barely lit by the sun. I thought it was a perfect way to end a wonderful day. June 2016

how do you get the black behind the bird , did you flash it ?

Absolutely not. I don't use flash with animals. The Peregrine is lit only by the sun that was low on the horizon. The dark background is naturally a result of low light, fast shutterspeed and wide open aperture. One of my favorite photographic techniques.
