Location
This photo was taken in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park during my road trip through the East coast of the USA in summer 2014. Easily one of the best place of this journey. The name of the park was well picked, the clouds are constantly flirting with the mountains. It was like waves of the trees. Magical.Time
This was taken 18th of July 2014 at 5:02pm. I was driving and I saw this amazing color and light on the way. So I stopped the car and took a couple of shots between two cars passing.Lighting
The lighting was all natural, I didn't needed to add any extra light. It was a perfect moment, the sun started to go down, so we had these bright yellow/green colors. I try to shoot mostly during these periods (sunset / sunrise). It brings shadows, contrasts and strong colors that make any shot looks amazing.Equipment
This was shot on a Nikon D800 by hand with a 50mm at f/1,4 to accentuate the vignetting and this dreamy mood.Inspiration
It was a very spontaneous shot. I was fascinated by this bright green color and this heavy fog. It had something very calm and surreal I wanted to capture to keep this moment with me. So I stopped the car and choose a angle where the road was making a turn, to accentuate the mysterious feeling of the place. I waited to have no cars on the road and took a couple of shots.Editing
This photo is almost raw, I just did a few edits by adding contrast, make it more yellow and green, removing some clarity to enhance the mist and strengthen vignetting. But everything was mostly there in camera. In my camera bag
I usually have my Nikon D800 with a Tamron 24-70 f/2,8 but I mostly shoot with my Nikon 50mm f/1,4 because it's a gorgeous lens and I love the feel of the blur and the vignetting. And it's lighter than the zoom which make it easier to cary.Feedback
I think it's important to feel the mood you want to give to your image. Keep your eyes open, take time to see and live the things that surround you. For this picture it was this mysterious feeling I wanted to capture. To achieve that I waited to have no car crossing, and I choose an angle where the road was making a turn. It's bringing something intriguing to the picture. We want to know what's after this turn. It gives direction to the viewer and a story. It think direction is an important thing in photography. It's all about finding the right lines that will catch the eyes and make the viewer fall into the picture.
