Probably one of my favorite pictures I have ever taken. A few minutes before taking this shot, he was a bit scared and shy. As soon as he saw the mouse, his instincts took over and my love for hawks and owls grew.

Location
This was taken in San Diego Zoo, California. This owl was being shown off to get him used to being around people.Time
It was around the middle of the day, but in a semi-shady area.Lighting
A bit of backlight makes for a good portrait. It doesn't have to be a portrait of a person! The same goes for animals and objects too.Equipment
This was shot with a Canon T3i and 70-200mm lens. I had to scramble through my bag a bit to change the lens before capturing this.Inspiration
The expressions he was making, I just had to make sure I captured them. At first he was a bit shy but as soon as he saw food, all his focus was drawn towards it.Editing
I took a brush tool in Lightroom to ease off some of the brightness on the back of his head. I like using the brush tool to get certain areas rather than underexposing the entire image. In my camera bag
My favorite lens at the moment is the 70-300mm. I use it all the time! I borrow it from a friend and I'm trying to save up for my own.Feedback
Its okay to go to the zoo! It makes for great practice on subjects that move. The more practice the better!
