Location
This photo was taken in the UK. This was taken in a hide with a special set up, so the kingfishers dives at a specific place to catch the fish. So before any photography, the cameras are fixed on a board outside of the hide, the distance is measured to the perch where the kingfisher might land and dive, all parameters are set to manual and preprogrammed, the photographer sits in the hide and the shutter is remotely released per kabel or telemetry. When the kingfisher dives, you cable-release the shutter with the highest number of frames per second. As in any wildlife photography, the animal you look for may show up or not.Time
Afternoon of course you wait in the hide sometimes 4 hours and moreLighting
In my case there is the natural ambient lighting. I am working out of a hideEquipment

for kingfisher photographers this is a real challenge. It is somehow artificial, but from about 2000 pics 1 that is ok, as you never were from the perch the kingfisher will dive and were from the water it will dive up. As you have no time to adjust focus it is either success or failureEditing
usual cropping and cleaning. I use LR or CaptureoneIn my camera bag
I am a sony user now and for landscape I use different lenses than for wildlife. But I have always 2 camera bodies with me, and a tripod. For landscape I use a zoom lens 24-70mm and a 18mm lens For wildlife I have a zoom lens 100-400mm, and a very luxury and outstanding 600mm f/4 lens plus TC 1.4. My lenses are usually manufactured by Sony, Bad weather protection as wel. Ansd I carry a lot (4-8) batteries with me and a fair amount of CF cardsFeedback
Kingfisher photography is always rewarding. Here it is a very special set-up that only some few places offer
