Location
This was taken on location high on the cliffs at Kangaroo Point , Brisbane , QLD, Australia . an excerpt from Brisbane City Art Trail ...."Venus Rising is a 23 metre, polished, stainless steel structure that radiates silver or a deep gold depending on the intensity or position of the sun. The shape of the artwork emulates the spiral form of a nautilus shell with hundreds of interlocking rings and tubes that twist up to the open sky. It is possible to enter at the base of the artwork and look up through the spiralling structure to the sky"Time
It was late morning and the sun was shining down through the spiral bars of the sculptureLighting
no additional lighting was used . I use a small aperture, f22, to control the strong light entering the top of the sculptureEquipment
the image was taken hand held due to the space restrictions inside the sculptureInspiration
the twisting metal form and the light and shade from the strong sunlight combined with the ability to enter the sculpture attracted my attention . I wished to see if I as a novice could capture the light and shade in an interesting wayEditing
I felt this called for a conversion to B&W to intensify the drama of the interesting art work .. I first processed the colour image in Canon DPP then converted the image to B&W in PhotoShopIn my camera bag
I have a Canon 1100D, a 16-55mm and a 55-250mm Canon EOS lenses, a Canon 500D close up lens/filter , a Hoya PRO 1000 ND filter , a soft Grad ND 4 filter . UV filters for both lenses, a CPL filter, cleaning equipment , tripod, and camera rain coverFeedback
Spend time discovering interesting art works in your local area. Many cities have great art trails and the information on these is usually available from the City information web site . Visit them at different times of the day to see the changes in light and shade to obtain the best composition
