My one and only encounter with a Great Gray Owl was in Yellowstone in 2015. I had a brief conversation with another photographer while at a pullout in Lamar Valley. He mentioned he'd spent the previous morning with a Great Gray and told me the location. Driving through that area the next day we spotted this Owl immediately and nearly jumped out of the car while it was still moving. But I waited and as soon as I'd grabbed my gear the Owl had moved. Fortunately we found it again and were lucky to watch it hunt for five minutes before it flew back into the woods. We trudged through heavily falling snow for an hour before deciding we needed to leave. My encounter was ever so brief, but for those short minutes I felt in complete awe of her magnificent beauty. I will see one again, and hopefully for a longer duration. But this is one experience I will always treasure. October 2015
