I have felt for quite some time that we live in a world that celebrates mothers. I notice this in everyday life, and the photography world as well. Today, we celebrate dads, as we should always. We celebrate dads who have spent their entire lives knowing they wanted the family they now cherish and dads who were surprised by the unplanned arrival of their first born and stepped up anyways, despite the challenges. We celebrate dads that have suffered through the heartbreak of infertility and dads that have experienced the soul-crushing sorrow of losing their little ones. We celebrate single dads, stay at home dads, and mothers that gracefully take on the roll of both mom and dad. We celebrate dads that have taken in other children as their own, and dads that have selflessly allowed other moms and dads to adopt their wee little ones, in an effort to give those children a better life.
We celebrate the dads that wake up in the middle of the night to administer tylenol, clean up vomit, rock little ones back to sleep, and soothe their children after a scary dream. We celebrate dads can’t bear the thought of something bad happening to their children. Dads that read the same damn bedtime stories for the 18456th time and dads that do not get that opportunity because they are working multiple jobs to support their family. We celebrate dads that are doing the best they can even though their best is not their own conception of perfect. Our children thank you and so do we. xoxo
