I took this selfie about 10 years ago after a bad break up from a boyfriend I was with for about two years. It was one of those relationships where I knew it wouldn't work out but I thought maybe he would change after he deployed overseas in 2009. I was wrong, he was even more emotionally abusive than he was before and while it was hard to leave him two months after he got back, I had to for my myself. I took this picture trying to feel good about myself with the low self esteem I had after coming out of that relationship. I cut and dyed my own hair, put on make up and wore my favorite shirt at the time to feel good about myself. What I learned throughout the years is that the person you want to change won't change, you need to stand up and walk away! Sometimes we just stay a little too long hanging on to hope.
