This elderly Bengali woman was squatting on the side of a path near a temple in Kolkata waiting for small donations to afford her sustenance.
She had suffered a stroke and consequently couldn't speak or use her left hand. Her clothes were clean and her hair was neatly combed. Her smile was beautiful and genuine. Her eyes glistened and shone with a unspeakable tenderness and vulnerability. She disturbed no one and patiently waited and hoped for a few drops of the milk of kinndness kindness. To give her a little something to ease her burdens is to briefly bond
with an empathy befitting the best of human nature.

The image was captured in a very tight walkway, it was crowded with a stream of pedestrians between the lady and myself, I wanted to catch her expression which wasn't constant, and there was strong shafts of light on her left shoulder. After about 10 shots I had to settle with what luck would give me. It's her smile and eyes which were the heart and soul of the composition. Thank you for the generous comment. cheers,
