This is one of the many gorgeous animals I saw during a recent visit to San Diego's Zoo and Safari park. His name is Izu and he's a black maned lion. There are two female lions in the enclosure with him and they all keep each other company and snuggle up sun bathing together. I do wonder if they're the ones who gave him those scratches on his nose! Perhaps a bit of play fighting, or maybe he was in trouble! When we visited, he put on quite a show and roared proudly for the whole crowd to hear! His roar is so powerful!
