It had not been a great day for photography. Sat inside a beach side cafe warming up deciding what to do next. Ominous clouds were forming. Sure enough later that night the weather turned for the worst but while I was sipping a cup of coffee and eating some Icelandic food I noticed the light outside was changing slightly and I felt the potential for something but knew whatever that something was it wasn't likely to last very long. My camera was attached to my trusty 70-200mm so instead of thinking to fiddle around with a wider angle lens and tripod I grabbed what I had available in the moment and ran out onto the beach. By the time I got there this wonderful glow was emerging from the sombre and moody scene around it. A last ray of hope if you like but still with the feel of something ominous coming. Instead of getting closer I fired off a frame handheld from this distance. Using the telephoto lens helped me to capture the mood of the scene and compress the elements before the last light was engulfed by the clouds.
