I was walking along the salmon spawning stream when I saw this chum salmon on it's side, awaiting it's end. IT had returned to the stream it had been born in, fought it's way up rapids and raging streams, fought off other salmon who sought to mate with it's mate and at last after doing his job and having spent every ounce of energy it had was now awaiting it's final rest as it laid on it's side with mouth still moving. It couldn't get over how beautiful it's eyes. I almost wanted to whisper to the dying chum,"wELL DONE, my friend, well done.
