The Liverpool Pirate Festival is an annual event ( this year, 2015, taking place on 12th & 13th September) that attracts "pirates" from all over the UK, and thousands of visitors, to the historic Albert Dock - part of the Liverpool Waterfront, a world heritage site. All in costume, the pirates stage mock sea battles in the dock between a replica pirate galleon and Royal Naval cutter - both armed with incredibly loud firearms and cannon. As well as swordplay demonstrations and sea shanty concerts, children are encouraged to wear fancy dress for the "little pirates" parade around the dockside. All around the site, "pirates" in costume are pleased to freely pose for photographs. consequently, the event is a photographer's dream.
