This stunted, almost "bonzaI" ponderosa pine survives on the very top of the mesa at El Moro, exposed to the winds and lightning, getting water from roots growing into cracks in the rock. Backdrop of a typical azure New Mexico sky with white clouds.
El Moro Nat'l Monument is located in west-central NM, south of the Zuni Mountains, southeast of Gallup. Additional photos and info earlier in my profile.
