This Lighthouse proudly stands high on the dunes at Egmond aan Zee, and called after Lieutenant J.C.J. van Speijk.
The Lieutenant van Speijk blew himself and the crew up in the port of Antwerp in 1831 during the Belgian mutiny, so he did not fall in the hands of the Belgians.
For centuries the Egmond Lighthouse is a beacon for sailors. Every night the Van Speijk shines his familiar light over the sea and the village.
I made this picture standing on the beach. There was a storm coming, the night fell in and the sky colored dark. I waited for the right moment when the light started to shine and so I shoot this picture.
The beautiful old look and the white color of the lighthouse, the light that started to shine and the dark sky behind the lighthouse made this picture to stand out.
