Dear Amanda: She has had a difficult life. Even now their bamboo house has no electricity. My maid San San is her niece so I came to know the family quite well. I put in a well for them so that they could at least have running water beside their house. Living in poverty is definitely not the way to go if it can be avoided.

Dear Liz: Thanks for commenting. Ma Lay is about 80 years old and her husband is the same, she smokes a pipe, he smokes cheroots (cigars). They are quite good characters in life, quite strong! :) :)

Ma Lay is one of life's good-hearts, generous and kind, such a nice Buddhist lady. She smokes pipe occasionally but her husband smokes cheroots (cigars) a lot, they are both 80+ years. Thanks for comment, Daisy! :)
