Hugs and love--behind the scenes at a horse racing farm. There are a lot of misconceptions about this sport, and my goal was to always tear down those walls that people have tried to build around this industry. I am, first and foremost, and animal lover. I am also a racing fan. What I have found is that people hate this industry because they have been fed a lot of misinformation, when most of the people who hate the sport have never even stepped foot on a track. There are many who are fighting to make changes to improve the quality of racing (we know things aren't perfect at every track), and great changes have already been made. There are hundreds of organizations to help re-home racehorses after they retire. They go on to be hunter/jumpers, trail horses, ranch horses, much loved companions...I've been to numerous tracks, and there is a lot of love to be found. There is a strong connection between humans and horses, a connection like the one pictured here: built on trust and a lot of patience. If you have never worked with horses, you can't possibly understand how much power these amazing animals have...and how one wrong move could get you killed. I think that's why I have so much love and respect for horses--I know that they allow us to have these connections with them. It is the great gift they give to us lowly humans. So, before you judge a sport based on misinformation, I ask you to look at this photo, and the many others I have posted from the tracks and racing farms over the years, and then try and tell me that you think the industry should disappear.
