The Male American Kestrel is one of the smallest falcons on the North American Continent. Many consider this tiny hunter amongst the fiercest pound for pound of the raptors. They are certainly among the most beautiful. They are the only raptor that can hover without need for assistance from the wind. They can hover in place for long periods of time while waiting for their quarry to appear. They will hunt small rodents and birds along with many types of insects.
