Are "Red Skies at Morning" a useful weather forecast? If the red skies are in the east, no. If red clouds cover the whole sky then there is a light indication of rain. And if they are towering dense red altocumulus and stratocumulous to the west then a weather front may be approaching. A better indication of wet weather is a 22 degree halo around the sun or moon from ice crystals in high cirrus clouds.
