The Sint Pieters and Bloklands Guesthouse is a national monument in Amersfoort. The combined hospital is of medieval origin.
The Sint Pietersguesthouse for the sick was founded around 1390. In the foundation letter of 1404 it comes under the administration of the city of Amersfoort. The foundation charter was emphatically ... not for children, madmen and Lepers! Later it became a retirement home with a separate women's and men's section. The elderly could be taken in in exchange for money or property. The Men Hall section was built in 1535. In 1804 the Pietersgasthuis merged with the Blocklandts Foundation by order of the city council.
In 1912 the chapel and the men's hall were renovated. The main facade has remained virtually unchanged.
The guesthouse is divided into a main building and two side wings. The stepped gables are crowned by natural stone lions. The original interior of the main building and the regents' room are still intact.
A corridor is located along the entire rear of the main building.

It is amazing how the architecture seemed so sophisticated all those years ago. You know I love those patterns and curves.
