This photo is of a sand dune backed by an enormous red rock formation in the Atacama region of Chile. The specific area can be found near San Pedro de Atacama in the valle de la luna (Moon valley), even though the terrain more closely resembles Mars. It's incredibly stark and desolate, making for some interesting shots of the red rocks, which contrast pretty nicely with the blue sky on a clear day.
