Thought I'd share this photograph. I 'came out' of the cancer closet on my facebook page and was contacted by an old friend who it turns out like me has Stage 4 Lung cancer, but hers has metastasised to her brain.

She recently underwent Gamma Knife radiosurgery at the Royal Marsden on the brain lesions, and the mask kept her head immobile during the procedure. The surgery went well, and I suggested that she bring the mask around for a PhotoShoot as it had probably given her a longer lease on life.

My daughter's comment on the photograph really touched me. She wrote: "Portrait of a woman with Stage IV lung cancer by a woman with Stage IV lung cancer. That thing Virginia's holding is the mask to keep her head still while the doctors use a gamma knife. That thing my mother is holding is the camera. Exceptional."
