Captured this on a skiing trip in Norway. As the sun got down close to the horizon, I noticed some nice long shadow and light patterns caused by this lone group of trees. The low sun also helped pronounce the delicate texture of the freshly fallen snow, the grains closest to the foreground are about 12 cm from the front element of the lens. There was some light snow in the air, which helped produce a pleasing golden glow to the landscape.
Tech details: I had pre-scripted a custom sequence that I made for the Magic Lantern Canon firmware add-on, basically it automatically ETTR'ed and in 1-stop increments bracketed 3 stops in both directions from there. All while capturing 15 predefined steps of focus pretty much covering the entire scene back to front, thus ensuring razor sharpness of every single snow crystal. The clouds were a bit messy, so on top of the sequence I decided to do a really long exposure for the sky only. In total this yielded some 90 raws, ridiculous sure - but at least I kept my fingers warm while the camera kept hammering away recording every bit of unnecessary data.

Simply beautiful. Thanks for sharing the technic, very helpful to know how to reach to that level of detail. It would do a great painting.
