This is why I so love mergansers as a breed of duck. Not only do they look wild, they have guts to love to swim and hunt on rivers, even the rushing ones. We had had tons of rain, so the river was high and running wild. As I walked by the river and took photos of the rapids, I turn my camera to the next set of wild rapids and lo and behold, guess who is sitting on the boulder which has rushing water all around it, but this female common merganser. I mean the river was really high and you can see the water surrounding the boulder, but she doesn't even bat an eye at it. Now it may be her red hair feathers that make her so bold, but nothing is going to hold her back . You Go Girl!!LOL!
