This is a polydactyl cat born with a congenital physical anomaly (polydactylism, also known as hyperdactyly), that causes the cat to be born with more than the usual number of toes on one or more of its paws.
This one was living in Ernest Hemingway house in Key West, La Florida USA. It is supposed that it is a descendant from Snow White, one of many cats of the writer, who also had the anomaly.
These cats with six fingers were very appreciated by sailors because this anomaly favored their ability to climb and help in keeping rodents under control. Also some sailors considered them to bring Good Luck
