Snow Plants are a free-thinking radical wildflower-type plant, as they do not live by photosynthesis like green plants do. Instead, they have a symbiotic relationship with underground fungi. They love humus-rich, shady areas of mountain forests. Normally they grow from 4,000 - 9,000 feet. These were at 7,200 feet near Mills Peak in the Sierra Navada Range of California.

These are the coolest plants! I saw my first ones in the Sierra as well. Got home and had to look up these funny things. Love this shot of them!
