Bee food (Phacelia)

A flower with a very well descriptive name: bee food. The Latin name of this beautiful flower with lilac flowers is Phacelia tanacetifolia .
It's not for nothing that this kind has been given the name "bee food": bees love it. The flower makes a lot of nectar that bees make honey from and a lot of pollen that bees use to feed their larvae. Butterflies and bumblebees also love bee food for its nectar.
Bee food is also used as a green manure. After growth, it is turned over so that more nutrients come into the soil for the following plants. A field can also be sown with bee food after the harvest of, for example, grain to give weeds no chance. When the field is full of fast-growing bee food, no more weeds can reach it. Since bee food cannot withstand frost, the following year the field is ready for another round of the target plant. Bee food is popular in organic farming because of these good properties.
