A rare but natural phenomena captured during the transition between sunset and twilight on the Winter Solstice at Newborough Forest on the Isle of Anglesey off the North Wales Mainland in the UK. This event is rare because Wales is not known for having very bright , sunny and clear days during December , in fact the last time I witnessed a Winter Solstice Eve like this was thirteen years before taking this photograph , the first time I saw the firs appearing to burn like beacons under the setting sun . The intensity of colours that occur creating what appears as a forest on fire under a stark blue sky come from the alignment of the sun to the earth that only happens on or in the two days around the shortest day in the year causing the illumination from the sun to hit the needles and exposed trunks of the trees at just the right perspective . Taken lying on the ground below the trees the trunks that scale high above gain a blackened appearance just like burnt wood the light of sunset stretching in from the left across the highest parts of the trees and in the clearing behind . A longer exposure and correction of white light balance increased the intensity of the colours. Abstract Nature Landscape Photography using Natural Manipulations .
