In the summer in my area on the north shore of Lake Constance it is a little difficult to find a location for the sunrise - the sun just rises too far north and therefore overland. So you can either go to the south bank (luckily you can now go on day trips to Switzerland again) or to the back counry. The disadvantage: you have a lot of travel time and actually have to drive off before you know whether there will be color in the sky. At the moment the sun rises shortly after half past five, to this pond I have a driving time of about 45 minutes. The first look out of the window at 3:40 a.m. showed me that the sky was overcast. It was only around 4:30 a.m. that there was a very narrow band of cloudless sky in the northeast, the first reddish color could be seen. I drove off immediately. The most beautiful color is often about half an hour before sunrise - so I was very close. Fortunately, the streets were clear on Whit Monday and I arrived at the pond twenty minutes before sunrise - just in time for the colors to fade again.
