Ice Is Nice Photo Contest Winners Announced

Thank you to all the photographers that participated in the Ice Is Nice Photo Contest, sharing their best photos showing ice in nature. Congratulations to the winners and finalists, and a special round of applause for the Grand Jury Winner who wins a Nikon D5300 DSLR Camera.

"It was nice to see the macro shot of the ice crystals as seen in the Grand Prize winning photograph by Claudia Kuhn, an image showing an effort to think outside the box. Beside the subject matter the lighting, both in the background but on the crystals too, made this a more interesting image. It’s a photo that could be created anywhere with freezing conditions, by nature or with a freezer.

There were many wonderful photos submitted and selecting a winner along with just a few as “Runner-ups” is of course difficult and is one persons opinion. I was perhaps leaning towards images that were different from what I’ve seen in the past. With the finalist I selected I went with night images with great depth of field, the pop of color with the berries and cardinal and the different perspective and textures while shooting skywards in the ice-castle. These all showed me a bit more uniqueness setting them apart from the other beautiful collection of images submitted. " - David C. Schultz

A special thanks to our friend and professional photographer David C. Schultz for his collaboration as a guest judge. David C. Schultz is an awarding winning landscape and wildlife photographer based out of the Wasatch Mountains in Utah. He was recently featured in an international ad campaign for Nikon and is a Nikon Asia Ambassador. Over the past decade he has specialized in polar photography having traveled to Antarctica and the high Arctic over a dozen times each. His work has been featured in publications by National Geographic, Travel and Leisure, Digital Photographer, Outdoor Photographer, Islands and many others. His limited edition prints can be seen in private and public collections around the world.
