Coastal Landscapes Photo Contest Winners Announced

Thank you to all the photographers that shared their most stunning coastal landscape image in this photo contest made possible by our friends at Tamron. One lucky winner has won the Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD (Value $1300). The 24-70mm lens uses specialized high-grade glass in the three LD elements three Glass Molded Aspherical Lenses one Hybrid Aspherical Lens and two XR (Extra Refractive Index) glasses for excellent image quality.

A special thanks to friend and professional photographer Kevin Gilligan for his collaboration as a guest judge. "My visual perspective grew out of a love of the ocean, surfing and swimming. I have always lived near the ocean and have always been drawn to the water and its forms, sounds and interactions with light. Growing up on New York’s Long Island Sound and now living in L.A.’s South Bay, I have a keen appreciation for beautiful ocean, beach and water landscapes."

"This photo stood out to me for its technical strength, outstanding composition, and subtle use of a full range of dark and light. This is a very strong image. At first glance, the cypress stands tall and commands your attention. When you spend a little time with this image, and take it all in there is a wonderful pathway for the eye to follow. My eye was drawn to the gorgeous layered and wispy long exposure of the ocean. The water in this shot is particularly well captured and interesting to me. As you let your eye wander to the right along the water’s path, the light and jagged diagonal of the rocks brings your eye left and up to the cypress, and then into the background.

The composition in this shot drew my attention time and time again. Fidfoto also did an excellent job with dark blacks in the trees and rocks, with contrasting lighter details. I really enjoyed looking at the full range of light, without over-exposed shadows. The post-processing creates a subtle dream like state for me and is not overdone, which can be a distraction. There are wonderful sharp details in the rocks which contrast nicely with the soft-flowing water. The two birds in the shot add a sense of movement and vitality.
