Here is something we can learn from Jalinde about the techniques and story behind this awarded photo. Jalinde is a photographer of dubious qualifications who does photography for fun, and of course, huge profits..
1. Jalinde, where did you take this photo?
I took this photo at Burningman festival in 2013. Burningman is an annual festival held in Black Rock desert Nevada every year.
2. What time of day?
I captured this photo around 5 in the afternoon, that is how I captured the long shadows.
3. Anything worth sharing about lighting?
I like to shoot during Sweet Light hours in the late afternoon.
4. What equipment did you use?
I used a digital Canon EOS rebel and a Slick Tripod. The alkalie dust in Black Rock Desert is notorious for ruining cameras. I've broken two camera's since I've attended the festival. Finally I have wised up and carry my camera in TWO sealed plastic bags to keep the dust out.
5. What inspired you to take this photo?
Burningman festival is a photographer's dream. The entire festval is inspiring. The stark desert adds a surreal quality to most images captured there.
6. Did you do any post-processing? if yes, tell us about it!
I tweaked this image ever so slightly using Photo Matix.
7. What equipment do you normally have in your bag?
I always carry a tripod and lens paper.
8. Any advice for others trying to capture something similar?
Always carry a tripod.
