Behind The Lens

Location

The photo was taken at the “stadium of friendship” here in Görlitz. It shows my friend Daniel who is QB and coach in our football team that was founded less than two years ago. During their first official season ever they placed 1st in their league!

Time

It was taken in the evening, a few minutes after their training. I just put some soft boxes next to the football field

Lighting

Lighting is the most important component that brings images to life. I love one sided light with strong contrasts but soft shadows to add depth to photos

Equipment

That photo was taken with a Canon 90D with a Canon 24-70 F4 L. Light comes from 2 remotely used Godox V1 flashes in soft boxes

Inspiration

The fact that our small town got a football team ???? I played football 20 years ago but in a larger city and football never was present here in Görlitz until Daniel stomped that awesome team out of the ground

Editing

There is always some post processing to get all out of these RAW images. I also love the look of cinema and try to create a bit of a Hollywood look for my photos to draw the viewers attention

In my camera bag

I never leave with at least my Canon R5 C and the Canon RF 24-70 2.8 L. It’s just an awesome lens. For sports, weddings etc i add another canon eos R with a canon 70-200 L lens. But I also love vintage lenses, especially my Meyer Optik Görlitz 50mm 1.8 that is around 60 years old but performs awesome. If I need light, I add up to 3 Godox Ad 200 Pro and different light modifiers

Feedback

Always play around with multiple light sources until you like the outcome. There are tons of lighting rules and special lighting setups, like the Rembrandt but my favorite rule is “just try until YOU like it, nothing else matters”
