Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Yosemite National Park in California.

Time

This is in the morning before crowds of people showed up.

Lighting

I liked how the sun hit El Capitan & the perfect reflections in the water.

Equipment

I used my Canon EOS R camera, Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 lens, Sirui T-2205X carbon fiber tripod, and Manfrotto 496 center ball head.

Inspiration

As I was walking on the trail to this spot, I saw the reflection of El Cap. in the water and knew it would be a good composition.

Editing

This is an HDR photo combining five photos using Photomatix Pro. The aperture was f/18, and the shutter speeds were 1/25, 1/15, and 1/10, 1/6, and 1/4. The ISO was 125.

In my camera bag

I have a Canon EOS R body, along with these lenses: Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8, Canon EF 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5, Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8, and Canon 100mm IS USM f/2.8 Macro lens. I keep it all in a Lowepro backpack. I have a Sirui tripod with a Manfrotto ball head.

Feedback

Watch the weather for clearing storms, etc... and get out and shoot! Morning or evening light is the best.
