Location
The photo was taken in Cala Santany (Mallorca), where you can find this natural arch called Es Pontàs. I'm a landscape photographer and I explored the area to find the best location to compose with this natural arch and the arch of the Milky WayTime
That night I didn't sleep... the photograph was taken around 3 o'clock at night. But I was there all night looking for different frames and compositions. To access this place you have to walk by the sea and you have to get your feet wet, it is only possible to access if the sea is calm. That night was perfect, so I made the most of it.Lighting
The light pollution in the area helped illuminate the landscape and I decided to take advantage of it. This is a panoramic photograph and right where the model is is a huge cave. We decided to illuminate that cave with a warm flashlight that the subject held with his hand so that it would not be totally dark and thus be able to give prominence to the model as well.Equipment
This was shot on Sony A73, with a Sigma 14-24 f.2.8, and a tripod Leofoto 324C. Using a warm lantern for the illuminationInspiration
I had known this location for a long time, and usually all the photos I had seen were from a small viewpoint above. I was inspired by the immense arch and the landscape. I explored the area and decided to go down to sea level to take a panoramic photograph and thus be able to capture a double archEditing
This time I had to first join the panoramic photo to create a single file. Once I did this, I did a noise reduction and processed the photo adding more contrast. I also adjusted the color a bit and gave the photograph a more nocturnal atmosphere. In my camera bag
The equipment that I always carry in my backpack is the Sony A73 with te Sigma 14-24 f.2.8. For my is the most important to make my night pictures. I also have a Sigma 35mm 1.4 in case I want to capture the galactic center with a bigger size. Important thing for me is also the illumination...For this I have 3 Fenix lanterns...2 cold and one warm and one headlight. Sometimes I also have the Sony 24-105, but normally I never use it during the night.Feedback
Mallorca is an island that has a very good sky for night photography. I advise you to explore the island well during the day and to plan what photograph you can take at night of that location you have explored. I also advise you to be creative and to look for a different point of view, that you do not box yourselves in what the rest of the people do. For me that is the way to improve and evolve.
