Location
This photo was taken on a ridge in the Lost River Mountain Range in Idaho.Time
We arrived prior to dawn to photograph the cowboys/girls as the sun rose reflecting off the mountain range in the distance.Lighting
It was amazing to see the color of the mountaintops as the sun rose. The dawn light painted them with beautiful pastel colors.Equipment
Nikon D7000, 18-200 mm lens @ 70 mm focal length, handheld, no tripod.Inspiration
This paint horse had such distinctive markings he was my favorite one to photograph. And the rider was as one with him when riding. Finding out that she had purchased him from a kill pen for a couple hundred dollars made it that much more special to photograph. What a pair!Editing
Minimal post processing. Adjustments for exposure, clarity and cropping were the only things done.In my camera bag
I always have my Nikon D750 and Nikkor 24-300 mm lens. And of course and extra battery! Depending on what I am going to photograph determines if I bring different lenses or throw my tripod into the mix.Feedback
These type photos are very difficult to get without them being planned out. You just don't typically head up to a ridgetop and find that wonderful horse and rider galloping across. Sad to say but usually you have to be involved in a photo shoot (and I was) for this type photo - or know a rider willing to meet you in that special place at the special time. I have been successful getting photos of my daughter similar to this but not with those magnificent mountains as the backdrop.
