Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo on the surrounding area of the village of Gorenka near Kyiv. Here there is a large poppy field on the shore of the pond.

Time

Photo taken on June 15, 2020 at 21:06 pm. I specially came to this place at sunset, when the sun will be low over the horizon, but not yet hidden.

Lighting

Backlight from the evening sun plus spot lighting with a small LED lamp. That was enough.

Equipment

This was shot on a Nikon D750 with an 24-120 mm f/4 lens. And small LED lamp was also used to illuminate the cornflower.

Inspiration

The field of poppies in the setting sun is incredibly breathtaking. It burns like fire. And suddenly the gaze stops on the blue flowers of cornflowers. They rise here and there from the red sea of ??fire. And it is impossible not to take pictures.

Editing

I was shooting RAW in standard camera mode. Then I did editing in auto mode in Adobe RAW Converter.

In my camera bag

Nikon D750 with an 24-120 mm lens. Sometimes my old Nikon D300s with the lens 16-85 mm or 35 mm as well.

Feedback

The beginning of summer is a great time to shoot in flowering fields. I like to take pictures of such scenes in the evening. Look for a flower that differs from others in contrast, color or shape and focus on it. Adjust the focal length and aperture so that the background is blurred. Check the overall lighting of the frame. If necessary, adjust the exposure to minus. For this photo I used 120 mm and f5 and -1.33 EV. The light source should be behind the subject. Experiment with different angles. Good luck!
