Location
This photo was taken at the Danish West Coast, near Lemvig. I'm visiting Denmark with my familiy during the holidays.Time
On a sunny day, late afternoon, I decided to walk to the beach, to capture the sunset. On the way to the beach I passed a paddock which I observed several times before from our holiday home. The sky was clear and I thought the light would be very nice. When I came closer, the horses noticed me and came up to me and so we just stood face to face. It looked like they were posing for a family portrait. It was a special moment!Lighting
I wanted to use the warm, natural light of a setting sun and the sun was already began to set. The light was perfect. I was lucky that the horses stood in front of me, so that the light came directly from the right side.Equipment
This shot was captured handheld with my full frame Nikon D800 and a Nikkor 28-300mm lens at 32mm.Inspiration
I think three icelandic horses and a wonderful sunset combined with strong winds at the coast of Denmark makes a great interaction. My two daughters love horses, especially Icelandic horses. So we were lucky to have a few of them near our holiday home. On this day, I took several photos of these horses and I'm lucky to say that some of them already received several international awards.Editing
I always shoot in RAW format, so that I have many options in post-processing. I use Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop for the post-processing. In this case I added a little bit of warmth and clarity to the image and enhanced the colors and especially the sun light. After that I cloned out a few things on the fur of the horses. I'm worked out the moody light with some overlay textures to strengthen the colors of the sky.In my camera bag
Normally I have my full equipment in my bag. The full frame Nikon D800, a Nikkor 28-300mm lens, a Nikkor 105mm macro lens, a Nikkor 50mm lens and sometimes I have the opportunity to use a Nikkor 14-24mm lens. Additionally I have a travel tripod, a cable release and some filters in my bag.Feedback
If you have no specific concept, be prepared for anything. Find places close to home that you can visit often to find out the best conditions and the perfect daytime. Search for new angles and new perspectives. I'm an amateur photographer and I'm travelling with my family as often as we can. Keep your eyes peeled and look for new things. Be creative and shoot.
