Location
I took this picture in late October 2017, on my way back from a hike in the Brembo valley near Sedrina, Italy. It's a place where i've been many times with my friends, because it's not too far from our city, Milan. There are many interesting locations to see, and the paths are not too difficult even for a beginner excursionist. That day the weather conditions were excellent and the autumn colours were at their peak. I found a place along the path where the view of the colourful woods in the foreground and the mountains in the background was optimal and i was able to take this shot, even without a specific equipment.Time
Although everyone says that the central hours of the day are not the best for taking pictures, this shot is one of the exceptions to the rule: It was taken at about 2.15 pm.Lighting
Nothing special to say, this photo was not carefully planned, I simply saw a beautiful landscape and I decided to photograph it. As i told before, i was lucky to get very good weather and the sky was very clear. The light fell on the landscape like a painter's brushstroke.Equipment
I was hiking with friends, i planned to do some groupshots and portraits, so this was the equipment: my camera (a Fujifilm XM-1) and a vintage 50mm Jupiter 3 lens, produced in the USSR and dating back to the late 50s. I'm interested in old manual lenses because of the particular character they can give to a picture. I use the Jupiter lens mostly for portraits, for it's unique bokeh. Unfortunately it is not a very sharp lens for a landscape photography, and for this shot I had to stop down the aperture to f11 to get a decent sharpness.Inspiration
The colours of autumn, of course. I saw thousand of pictures of this subject but i never had the opportunity to take a good shoot of this subject. So this time i was quite satisfied by the result.Editing
I've just done a standard processing, some increase in contrast and sharpness to counter the lens weaknesses. I've also used the cut tool for adjusting composition. In my camera bag
Between SLR and Mirrorless I'm a big fan of the latter, for the advantage of having everything you need in a very little space. When I travel and i plan to do a lot of pictures, I carry whit me my Fuji XM-1 with the standard Fujinon 16-50 zoom and the 50-230 telephoto zoom. Other useful accessories are a small Manfrotto Pixi tripod, a polarizing filter and a close-up + 2 filter to do some macros. All of this is carried in a standard travel backpack, along with other things…Feedback
I'm not a big fan of landscape photography, but of course i shot landscapes when i've the opportunity. My advice for others is to observe carefully the landscape before taking a picture of it: there is always a better point of view than that where you are located. Sometimes it's a matter of height and you will get a better perspective just kneeling or climbing one or two steps. Try to look at the subject from every place you think it might be a valid point of view and pay close attention to the foreground, which must be the more interesting part of the picture.
