Awe inspiring! It does look like you are right on the edge. How cool to hear how the angle of camera made that perspective but you were safely positioned away from edge. Thanks for sharing

Terrific job. I read in your BTL that the angle makes your position more precarious than reality...but it makes for a very arresting image. Congratulations!

On the way to Grandma's cottage in the dense forest, the Little Red Riding Hood decided to take a detour, and ended up somewhere in Utah! 😁

A beautiful overlook in Zion National Park, Utah. After finishing up business in a city nearby, had an afternoon to explore a little. It was the first time to visit this Park and wow!... I was so amazed by the beautiful rock landscape and epic views!! This canyon view did not require an overly difficult or too long hike, so I chose it because there wasn't much time before sundown! And I am so glad I did! It was definitely worth the hike up to look and experience this amazing view of this valley carved out between these steep rock cliffs!!!There's just no way to describe how it feels to just sit in this spot and take it in! I recently went back and was overwhelmed at how many people are going there now after they've seeing lots of images of it on social media!! If you plan to visit, best to take time to research and find out the best time of year when less people are visiting the park. You will want to allow time to hike during the soft light, like early morning or late afternoon and evening. I'm looking forward to going back again and I plan to get there at sunrise next time!Time
It was very late afternoon /evening, right before sunset, but I do recommend going a little earlier to give yourself more time before it gets dark. The trail is safe, but is much better to hike the trails while it is still light enough to see because there are a few rather narrow and very steep placesl!Lighting
The lighting in this worked because there wasn't a lot of heavy shadows from bright sun. When shooting in a place like this, it is good to remember that harsh sunlight can create such dark shadows in parts of the canyon that it can be a little tricky to expose evenly. I personally think this is a great place to shoot when it is partially cloudy. It helps you capture the highlights and the shadows so you get more of the epic details and the massive scale of the view.Equipment
I used a tripod, a remote timer with my Canon 6D and Canon 24-70 2.8L II lens. The 24-70 2.8L ii lens is such a great overall lens that produces very sharp images. I love that lens for images like this. It would also be great to use an ultra wide lens to try an even wider angle, but you would have to be careful about distortion with the edges of the cliffs.Inspiration
The view itself immediately inspired me to not only take a shot of this epic canyon, but to jump in the frame and be a part of the image! There is something about looking across this epic canyon that makes you want to keep the memory of it to remember forever!!! I had a grey jacket on and even though it was very cold, I took the outer jacket off so my red sweater and hat would give a good color punch to the center of the image. Because the color tones of the canyon is warm tones, red works out well.Editing
I brought up the highlights and shadows and also had to take two images to use one as an overlay to bring back the sky. To expose for the canyon, it blew out the sky to white, so this is composed with two images... the main image and the sky overlay. Other than that, it didn't require very much editing. In my camera bag
When hiking, it is best to not be too weighted down, but I usually have my Canon 6D with Canon 24-70 2.8L ii lens and also my Canon T3i with a wide angle 10-22mm lens. And I do bring an external flash and a diffuser to use when a fill flash is needed. And of course a tripod is always with my bag too!Feedback
To jump in the frame, it is important to have a good safe place to be in it. Even thought this image gives the effect that I am sitting on the edge of a rock looking straight down into the canyon, it is just the angle that gives that effect. I had good safe footing and was not too close to the edge! I think this is an important bit of advice because too many people are doing such dangerous risky things just to get an image to put on social media. Please always keep safety as a first consideration. Amazing images can be taken by just testing different and creative angles to get the desired effect! Also, to get good focus of a person in foreground and get background details too, I used a narrow depth of field and focused on a rock that I would be sitting on, then locked it on manual setting. After sitting on the rock I used the remote timer to take the shot. That allowed me to stay sitting on the rock and get several versions from that same spot.
