I took the shot in my garden. I just got my new Macro lens and couldn't wait to try it out! I was just about to give up wh en this beautiful butterfly landed not to far in front of me.Time
This was around 8 in the morning. But on a cold winter's day in South Africa. The grass was still white and wet from the cold night it endured. The grass was covered in little spider webs shimmering in the sun.Lighting
The sun was giving me really harsh shadows that day but luckily a cloud crossed in front of the sun giving me awesome soft light and shadow for about an hour.Equipment
A Canon 60D with a 100mm 2.8 L macro lens. Nothing elseInspiration
I just got my new(and first ever) macro lens and realy exited to go test it out. I was walking around at about 8 on cold winter's day in South Africa. The grass was wet and cold and actually quite devoid of insects and bugs. After an hour and a half of nothing happening I was just about to give up. Then suddenly this beautiful butterfly landed on this small plant growing out of the grass. I fell to my knees and started crawling towards it through the wet, cold grass. Finally I was close enough to take a shot. I got about 3 shots in then it left.Editing
Yes, just some basic corrections of shadows and brightness. In my camera bag
I have a my Canon 60D body. My first upgrade from crop sensor to full frame. The noise performance of a full frame is just so much better. Then i have a 100-400mm L markii zoom from Canon its truly a workhorse of a lens. Its really robust and you can see the quality of the glass in this lens. I then have a 17-40 mm L for wide angle and landscape photography. My 100 mm macro. For the smaller thing's in life and ofcourse a nifty 50.Feedback
Just be patient and you will get the shot eventually. But most importantly just go shoot! Just get up and walk around, opportunity awaits around every corner????
