I waited in my backyard after photographing a female Kinglet and the male did show up. It has a small area on it's head that is ruby-orange in color and the male erects the feathers when he spots a female or a predator. These birds are so fast and spend their time going from twig to twig in shrubs and are more difficult than hummingbirds for me to photograph. Only 4 inches in size and do sing. They migrate north through Illinois to nest.
