I got to play with a Harley Davidson today :D
Went on a road trip adventure with owner Mark and his awesome wife Suzanne to get to this remote location. Both are long time friends of mine, but we rarely get to catch up, so I couldn't have been more thrilled to spend the day cruising around and taking photos. A Skyline and a Harley lol I have so many awesome shots out of today.. can't wait to show the rest to you soon :)
I haven't had the chance to shoot many bikes.. this is my 2nd one actually! I'm definitely keen to more..
Shot with Canon 5d markii
100mm 2.8
9 photos all up stiched together for panormama
Edited mostly in Lightroom and some minor touches in cc

Location
his photo was sot in a sand min in NSW Australia. I had originally came across the area a week proir and thought how amazing it would be to do a car shoot in here. unfortunately the gates at the entrance, couldn't get a car through.. but we could sneak a Motorbike in :) I just loved the vast desert like openness to the location. So happy I got to use it!Time
This was shot just after midday. the sun was still blaring above me. I shot at a low exposure to get the detauils in the highlights. I did this knowing that i could esily open up the shadows later in Adobe Lightroom.Lighting
Its all ambient. I say don't fight ambient light.. learn to work with it. I did have portrait work to do with the bike during this shoot, so for that i used an assistant with a sun diffuser. but for this shot, the hard light worked well. It brought up all the details in the bike and gave me that amazing blue sky and white clouds.Equipment
I'm a big prime lover. I use mainly prime lenses as they are just so sharp, unlike telephoto lens, prime dont have a million pieces inside them, and thus can concentrate on being the sharpest lens they can be. I used a Canon 5dmarkii, 100mm 2.8 canon lens. I have a very basic cheap tripod.. something i picked up for $30 at JBHIFI. No flashes/reflectors or other equipment was used.Inspiration
When i think harley i think vast vegas desert landscapes and freedom of rising. Unfortunately in NSW we dont really have those vast long deserted roads. When Owner mark asked me for a shoot of his Harley, i knew exactly where to take him. these sand mines gave the illusion of USA soil. The wide open spaces had zero background distractions. You could really feel free here.. a little break from the cruise on the side of the road. I'm inspired by old school commercial photography. this is how I picture Harley selling their bikes. A piece of Freedom, a partner in crime, alone time.Editing
Absolutely. 'm big on post processing and do heavy manipulations. however this was nice and light. I got most of it right in camera. In Adobe Lightroom i adjusted my shadows and contrast and sharpness. I than added gradient colors to add even more depth of field. i transferred it to Adobe cc where i used the Plugin colorpro to just add some gradient mapping/cross processing. by far one of the quickest edits I have done.In my camera bag
I like to travel light. I carry a canon 5d markii, canon 50mm 1.8, canon 100mm 2.8. My tripod is a no name brand, but it does the job. I actually do more lightpainting shoots so i always have two remote shutter buttons and a batlight.Feedback
Always first think of your background. What is distracting? if something is obviously distracting than move your subject.. sometimes all u have to do is move a meter over. Don't fight ambient light, work around it. take your time to look at your model and see how the light is hitting it. Move your model around to get the lighting effect you want. i always take shots of the surrounding image as well. in case I want to add more to the image than i have the content to do so. A majority of my images will be 4-6 photos stitched together. With hard light, always shoot at a lower exposure as you can always bring detail out of your shadows in post processing.
