"Each and every day the biologists and engineers at Weyland Yutani Corporation apply science, technology and an unparalleled global network of resources for the benefit of all humanity.
Here at Weyland Yutani we are dedicated to Building Better Worlds free from hunger and disease. Today we are proud to present to you a new product from our range of healthy foods. We are all aware of the health benefits the humble chicken egg provides us but they have their shortcomings. Our scientists have improved the humble egg by placing alien DNA inside the egg. Each egg is free from cholesterol, low in fat, rich in vitamins and minerals and provide five times more protein than the common egg. And of course 'foodys' will truly appreciate the unique taste of our chicken-alien hybrid egg! Weyland Yutani, building better worlds through better food."

The idea for this concept came from the statement, If humanity knew of the health benefits available to us from the alien species then the aliens would go from being predators to prey.

I took three shots for this image: one of the eggs, another of an toy alien and the third one I used a scorpion in a transparent ball to achieve the shadow effect. Then I used Photoshop to combine shots and drew a transparent egg, the water and shadows.

All shots for that image were taken on SONY Alpha NEX-6 and a retro lens KMZ Industar-61 50mm F2.8 L-Z from 1991.

Behind The Lens

Location

All photos for that manipulation were taken in my apartment in Magnitogork, Russia. I got the idea and I thought that the perfect place for that photo series would be my windowsill in the kitchen.

Time

It was daytime, from 14:30 to 15:30, I took lots of shots that day, because I'd like to capture all details I need to use them in the future and continue my photo series.

Lighting

The light was perfect that day, it was cloudy, so I've got very good natural light and the white surface of the windowsill was an amazing reflector, which drew out the texture of the eggs very well.

Equipment

This was shot on SONY Alpha NEX-6 with a retro lens KMZ Industar-61 50mm F2.8 L/Z from 1991, which is perfect to create amazing sharp shots of objects. all settings for that shot I made manually and I used f/4.5, 1/15 and ISO 200. Also I used GIOTTOS GT 390 photo tripod with RM-DSLR2 infrared remote control, because I like to create clean, sharp shots.

Inspiration

I'm a big fan of Alien Universe, but I disagree with the statement that if aliens ever came to Earth, all humankind would be dead, because the most powerful and perfect species would totally destroy us, no way, if one woman could totally destroy the colony of those perfect species, what would happen if the big corporation used all its resources for that, especially if they only knew about something they can use, so the idea for this concept came from the statement, If humanity knew of the health benefits available to us from the alien species then the aliens would go from being predators to prey.

Editing

I took three shots for this image: one of the eggs, another of an toy alien and the third one I used a scorpion in a transparent ball to achieve the shadow effect. Then I used Photoshop to combine shots and drew a transparent egg, the water and shadows. Also I created my own brush to create water bubbles effect inside the egg.

In my camera bag

I'm a huge fan of vintage lens, I love that each vintage lens has its own signature and the fact that lots of greatest photographers of the past used, perhaps, the same kind of lenses to take shots like I use today. The first thing I pack is my Jupiter-37A 135mm f/3.5, it is a great lens, very sharp, ergonomic with nice bokeh, definitely my favorite lens. The second thing is my camera SONY Alpha Nex-6, love how tiny it is and it is so easy and pleasant to use. Also I pack Zenitar-M 50mm f/1.7 from 1982, an amazing lens, very similar to ultron lenses, and Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 200mm f4, very serious piece of glass and metal from the 1970's, beautiful and sharp, like the sword of a samurai. Toys are alive when someone plays with them, the same with lenses, they come alive when someone takes shots, so I hope that my lenses will live for a long time.

Feedback

The photo manipulation takes lots of time, if you haven't prepared for it properly, so think about the place you will use and resources you have to achieve the effect you need and create the idea you have. Take as many shoots of the objects as you need, sometimes the idea can head in a different direction and you'd need additional shots with the same direction of light. Be patient, staying inspired and enjoying the process is also very important.
