Behind The Lens

Location

I took this photo in Condon Oregon. Condon is a super, and I mean SUPER small town. Condon is about three hours from where I live

Time

I took this photo at 10:30 pm after the moonset and sunset.

Lighting

I wanted to light paint the ground but not all of it so it wouldn't take away attention from the photo. I just used a small, ordinary flashlight that everyone probably has.

Equipment

I used a Nikon D3300 with the kit lens. I also used a Amazon Basics wireless remote. The tripod I used was a Vista by Davis and Sanford with a 5 lb weight. I planned the time with a computer app called Stellariam and a website called the Photographers Ephemeris.

Inspiration

I was inspired to take this photo from a photo magazine in my orthodontist's waiting room, there was a picture of the Milky Way. I really wanted to try astrophotography. So I went on YouTube and searched "astrophotography".

Editing

I did all my editing on Lightroom. I adjusted the exposure, the vividness and saturation.

In my camera bag

I always have my lens cleaning kit, as well as filters. I always keep a really dark lens with me so I can take long exposure shots in bright light. I bring my Nikon D3300 and my wireless remote.

Feedback

Try to go out of town where there is no light pollution. There are light pollution maps that you can look up online, also try to get a night with clear skies and no moon.
