I finally had a the opportunity to see and photograph the Grand Canyon earlier this year. I have lived only 3 hours away for years and never visited this wonder before. Fortunately, in February of this year my wife and I planned a week long trip that included seeing the Grand Canyon. This image was taken near the end of our first day there about a couple of miles west of the visitor center at the South Rim. There was so much to take in that first day, however, this spot I hung around at until the middle of the golden hour. I knew this was the spot to capture! I set up my camera tripod and waited for the right balance of light between the shadows, highlights and color of the light. The red vistas in this image is what really completes the image for me as it adds that beautiful color that the Grand Canyon is so known for.
