Behind The Lens

Location

This photo was taken at a local horse show. I spend a lot of time showing and competing myself but also love to visit local shows and capture special moments. I have always been a fan of straight on shots and moments that are non traditional.

Time

This was actually taken in the middle of the day.

Lighting

When I am shooting at shows or taking pictures of horses I actually prefer to shoot in the harsh sun. I feel the light really makes the muscles pop and gives a lot of depth to the photo.

Equipment

I use a Nikon 7100 with the Nikon 70-300 F4-5.6 lens. I love using a crop sensor for the added length.

Inspiration

Just my passion for shooting horse shows.

Editing

I don't do a lot of post processing on my photos. I have not learned photoshop yet and stick to lightroom. Typically I will up the contrast, fix over exposed and up the clarity.

In my camera bag

I don't carry a bag to shows - just my camera, lens and extra SD cards in my pocket. I need to move fast and special moments slip by quickly.

Feedback

Practice, practice and practice. Understand horse movement and what angles work the best. Ears up always makes for a better picture.
