Location
I had a dentist appointment in his office located in downtown Seattle in the Medical Dental Building, that happens to be a somewhat well known old building in downtown Seattle, so on the way out the door I grabbed my nice camera hoping that a photo oportunity might present itself. Being at the right place at the right time with your camera plays a big part in getting really good photos. When i was waiting after my arrival I was feeling pretty confident that the photo opportunity i was hoping for was right in front of me. I forgot they have a salt water fish tank with some pretty awesome subjects. Only problem was that there were others that were also interested in the fish tank and i wasn't able to get one shot even before my name was called. Fish tank still busy when i was done. So i left but decided to take the stair way down and thats when i took this shot looking down all the flights of stairs.Time
It was sort of an emergency dentist visit on the 4th of July weekend so its easy for me to remember. I took it on Friday, July 1, right around noon.Lighting
I did not use a flash. Just the natural light that was available.Equipment
I took the shot with my Canon EOS 70D, with the Canon 24 - 70mm 1:2.8 L II USM lens, with out a flash or a tripod. This Canon lens allows you to shoot at low light without a tripod or flash and still get very clear pictures.Inspiration
I was drawn to the repetition of the stairway winding down over and over again. I wanted to take the photo as soon as i looked over the railing and down the center of the stairway.Editing
Post processing is always where i get most creative i think. I shot this picture in color but felt it really would look great in black and white. Back in my college photography class we only shot in black and white and i loved it then and still love it now.In my camera bag
I wish i could say that i have another really good lens in my bag, or another camera that has different capabilities then the Canon 70D I shoot with all the time, but i cant claim such things. I have a selfie stick for my iPhone in my bag that comes in handy for more things then you can imagine. A gorilla pod thats super small and can be a lifesaver in low light. A Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT flash because sometimes you have to have fill light from a good flash. Spare camera battery and spare batteries for the Canon Flash. And not just in my bag but attached to my camera at all times that i somehow forgot to mention is a Canon Battery Grip made for the Canon 70D. Even though it might add some weight to the camera as a whole, it gives me much better control handling it and it also holds 2 batteries so I don't need to worry about running out of power when i might need it the most. What my bag really could use now more then anything else is a good camera strap with a camera cover. I have tried so many and still have not been able to find one that really fits all my needs. If anyone would like to suggest one they use i am open to suggestions!Feedback
Be prepared by having your camera with you as much as possible. You really don't know when it is that you might be in the perfect place to capture a great photo and you phone that has a camera just can't do the same thing as your nice camera can, right?
